Reflection of Personal Goal

Posted on | February 28, 2010 | 5 Comments

I set 3 goals early this month. Link to post: http://www.jacqis.net/2010/02/06/personal-goal-february-2010/. And here’s how well I think I have done and how I could improve.

1. To write once every 2 days
By 28 Feb, I had written 15 posts, excluding this. Using math, the number is about right and I did met my goal. Except when I looked at frequency, I wasn’t writing once every 2 days. During the first two weeks, I wrote almost daily. For the third week of Feb, I only wrote 2 posts.

I will have to start penning down my thoughts more often. What I did was to type into my Treo Pro when I had inspirations on topics. But often, my notes were too brief and sometimes I forget what it was I wanted to say. I doubt the iPhone will allow me to write better; I should carry my peper notebook in my bag aways.

Anyways I will carry this goal onwards to March. To a better blogging month!

2. Backup my photos
It’s a simple solution. Zip the whole folder, remember the file path. Unzip the whole folder in the same file path in the new server. Done.

3. Find a new web hosting company
Fatcow has been great but we find it a little slow at night. Maybe that’s when the States is awake? Anyway they are charging us double for renewal and I find that ridiculous. Shouldn’t loyalty be rewarded? So I am still on the lookout..probably trying a local (Singapore) host and see if that’s faster.

    Hey gal, more about Usonyx…

I find it really value for money. I’m paying like $5 a month or something. Server in SG or Msia (think u can choose now.. it was only in SG when i signed up). Think i signed for a year and had 4 mths free, so my one time ’set up fee’ or something is kinda waived due to the free 4mths.

We are using it to host our sister company’s website. I can’t say much about the speed at night coz i haven’t visited that site at night. Response time seems decent during the day.

I don’t recall it being down so far. Been with them for slightly over a year. Customer support has been prompt. Response via web chat / email has been quite fast. =)

I think they can support wordpress with no issues though I haven’t tried. Am just hosting static pages there. HTHs!

oh..the 4 months free sounds good. I am paying around SG$6 for unlimited storage & bandwidth (not that I am using heaps) so it’s good deal. Especially more if I don’t have to migrate files over..

Do you have an affiliate ID? In case I decide to sign up?

unlimited storage? wow. that’s a wayyyy better deal than the one i’m using!! coz i always have to worry if i’m already over the storage quota.. esp when i u/l huge files for my customer to download.

maybe could google if yr current webhost has any online coupon codes to defray the increased cost of renewing ur hosting. Quite a cheapo way but that’s what i do everytime i wanna renew or transfer my hosting/ domain name haha. or just write in to them and ask how come it’s more expensive to renew. who knows, they may offer some discount.

nope, I don’t have any affiliate id with usonyx =)

I have asked them for a discount. They gave me 10USD discount. I looked for coupons for the 1st sign up otherwise would have gone for other companies!
