Self-Motivation

Posted on | February 10, 2010 | No Comments

Had a chat with HPJeannie regarding blogging, writing and our domain. I was trying my best to convince her that she should start blogging, otherwise her domain is just sitting idle.

But the underlying reason was because I needed someone/something to motivate me to write daily. I was geared up last week, staying up after Chloe fell asleep around 11pm but the late nights are causing me to have dark eye rings and a need to have caffine twice a day. Unhealthy.

Am I going to be able to survive on 6 hours of sleep daily? Short term, yes. Long term, unlikely.

I probably need to tweak my writing or sleeping routine to maximize my time. But before that, I need to write and remind myself why I am doing this.

It’s been fun setting up this site
I am in touch with my geeky self! Though I haven’t been coding actively since 2006, because of wordpress themes, I have been meddling and succeeding with php, with no formal training in php.

I have embedded the social media icons, linking to my profile in other websites. Installing plugins so that my twitter feed can been seen.

I am learning about online marketing (or sort of)
I am trying to increase the visibility of my site and only recently I found out my privacy settings block search engines bot! That was on Sunday, 6 Feb.

Found out that I can register my site at Google webmaster tools. Ah ha! But after 3 days, my domain still isn’t crawled. Hmmmm..more work to be done

I am also reading about adsense, policies, guidelines and eventually I hope to get accepted. But first, let me build my content.

Urgency to write more and more.
Ever since I started working, writing has evolved into more of writing requirements, feature sets, most in succinct paragraphs. Twitter has also ‘forced’ me to write short phases and I found myself blogging lesser.

After acquiring decent writing skills in university, I don’t wish to lose this skill just because I am in a specialized industry/job that doesn’t require me to write much!

An outlet of self-expression
My life’s mantra is balance in every aspect of my life. I am married with family but I refuse to let go of my single self. My time is split among many people as I have multiple roles to play – daughter, wife, mother, professional, daughter-in-law, friend.

It can get quite exhausting and at times I find myself wonder, when do I have time to grow as an individual? So I need this space for self-expression and personal development.

Share with others
Ever since I became a mother, I read a few mother’s blog and I admire them for keeping up with the times, not neglecting themselves just because they have chores and babies to look after.

They are also willingly to share a part of their lives with others and I would love to do the same, here, on this site.
