Having a routine is good

We just enrolled Chloe into childcare, starting 4 Jan 2010. I was able to accompany her for 3 days, so I took time off from work. I spent the 3 days figuring out how we can adjust to this new lifestyle better. Because she was not used to sleeping and waking early, she was understandably grouchy during the first week and kept crying when I had to leave her.
For the first 2.5 years of her life, she has been waking up at 9am daily. Leave for her grandfather house around 10.30am. In the evening, she goes to her cousin’s place from 7-9pm and only reaches home at 9.15pm. By the time we unwind her to sleep, it’s almost 12am.
So I devised a new schedule, which after a month, became a routine.
7am, I will wake up. And Chloe will wake at 7.30am, after I am done bathing, changing and putting makeup.
7.45am, Chloe’s grandfather will pick us up and send us to the childcare.
8am, I will leave the childcare and travel to work.
8-5.30pm Chloe will be at childcare.
5.30-7pm Chloe will be back home, with our domestic helper.
7-7.30pm We will reach home and we proceed cooking dinner.
7.30-8pm We will have dinner
8-9pm Leisure time
9-10pm Prepare for bed and story reading time
10pm Lights out and she has her milk
10.45pm Chloe falls asleep
Of course there were hiccups in the above schedule. On some days, I overslept and jumped out of bed at 7.15am. On some nights, Chloe doesn’t want to sit on her bed to read and I could only turn off the lights at 10.30pm. But everyday, I will repeat this routine and so far, results are good. No more grouchy Chloe in the morning. : )
